We've embarked now on our journey entailing the composition of 3 songs that we will release on a 7" not yet titled...musically these songs are the most metal we have yet written, and we're extremely excited in the direction that they're heading. Still figuring out whats going on with the full length and who/how it will be released. So...all in all exciting things on the horizon. -Taylor/Elitist

Richard G.: Elitist are from Portland, Oregon and Elitist are hard. Uncompromisingly hard even. Their self titled debut EP contains an unbelievable, absolutely crushing mixture of noise, sludge, doom, black and grind.

Five songs and fifteen minutes of thundering basses versus feedbacking guitars and ripping vocals. From painfully slow via raunchily rocking and seething fast: this is fucking relentless, Trap Them style. You need to hear this to believe it. This is the sheer definition of utter intensity. I’m ready for that full-length guys! Please note: Elitist is only available through their label Paradigm’s webshop.

Remember the screeching scree that opens Venom's "Black Metal?" Well, there's something awfully familiar kick-starting the debut E.P. from this bravely monikered Portland band. Once the grinder finishes doing it's rape dance on your ears, this loud, alcohol-infused and pill-addled quartet start up with vocals from the pit of a sword-swallowers pin cushion stomach lining, guitars that are equal parts jumpy punk and searing black metal and a napalm sling-shot bass tone. There are a few too many moments where Elitist seem a little directionless and need an arrangement tightening or four, but if delivering uncouth, gob-in-the-face, blackened punk noise was the goal, they've done an awesome job.

There's a recognizable strand of hardcore behind the crust-laden, dirge-afflicted aural violence of Portland, Oregon's Elitist, though that's news to them. "We've never been pegged as such before and none of us would use that term to describe what we're doing," muses bassist Joel Graham, "but we all have definitely been influenced by hardcore and it's probably more evident in our music than we realize. We actually did play one hardcore fest right after me and Nick (Parks, Drums) joined the band and to be honest most of the people there looked rather confused." Their self-titled debut E.P. on London's Paradigms is to be followed by a split with neighborhood grinders Transient later this year with yet more to follow. (Write-up by James Hoare)

These guys are pretty new in the game, having been active for about three years (don't know where the fuck they got that, it's been a year) in Portland, a capital of sorts for vicious crusty hardcore. Not that that description sums up more than a part of Elitist's sonic make-up-on this evidence, the quartet could sneak onto bills of doom, BM and powerviolence without being too much of a sore thumb. Those late '90s bands who baked thier sludge in a speed crust-Iron Monkey and Grief, most notably-seem to be a touchstone of this thirteen-minute disc of searing, occasionally angular fire-spitting. "Tidal Influence" might have a "post-metal" title but pinches multiple nerves thanks to Nick Parks' gnarly drum rolls and an uncomfortably dragging, feedback-slaked midsection. "Determinism" uncoils things to greater, slower extremes with body blows worthy of, say, Thorr's Hammer, and in general one could probably direct fans of Converge's nastier moments to "Elitist".


We also did an hour long phone interview for Close Up Magazine from Sweeden (www.closeupmagazine.net.), which is out in the December issuel. Again, you'll have to figure out the translation if you don't speak Sweedish because all the online programs I found don't translate syntax so it ends up being nonsensical...

We got home yesterday from the week we spent with the_network dudes who are some of the funniest fuckers we've met.. fucking righteous times, I believe we can all say that we needed that. Thanks to everyone that came out and made those shows worth it..tacoma was a blast and black breath fucking killed that show. Portland hah as soon as Joel and I woke up it was constant turmoil on figuring out if the show would in fact be at the boneyard (which finally came through) but in the mean time we had to book it at the know incase of a fall through.. show was great people filtered in more towards the end but it was still a good time, olympia was awesome playing out in the middle of the woods to some college kids and seattle was probably the best seattle show we've played ..we've had little luck in seattle but smash fuckin made sure we got taken care of ..shes a fuckin gem.. thanks to her and ryan for letting us stay and be sick, drink beer and smoke bowls. Fun times, we're open to booking some shit very soon soo hit us up and if we give a fuck about your band you will hear back ..and if you dont hear back ...well there's a hundred shitty bands in portland you can hit up as well. check out backwards pumpkin photography he has siqq pics of the_network and us and many other bands ..

p.s. if you saw the drunk asshole that was tall and scrawny named uncle len len ..then you saw your lord and savior ...more shows to come

as of last monday we finished recording for a full length at interlace studio with Stephan Hawkes.. we only have heard the ruffs which already have gotten us very excited we can't wait for it to be finished, oh yeah being that our friends in transient have once again decided delaying doing a split with us we have just recorded 12 songs for this now full length. I believe we are moving ahead and have some potential bands we have discussed doing a split with and will probably work towards those in the spring. Amp Hell is still among us, but hopefully we can see the end of it soon. As of write now we are out two Ampeg V4's (one just needs new preamps and other needs new caps) one SVT Classic that we aren't even sure now after talking to Doug At Stephans Studio if the SVT can even be fixed but we'll see. Our 8x10 needs two new speakers and both my les paul and fernandes need tune ups and love.. fuck me... anyone that knows about amps knows that this all cost sooo god damn much money and is fucking hard to come up with when have to pay for recordings and merch and van repairs and dopesmoke.. as soon as we get the final back from Stephan we will post it and you guys can smoke weed and listen to it..

New And New...

Soooooo..... We are entering the studio Dec 10th with Stephan at Interlace .. we're all very excited about this being that he has gear we can partake upon, and that over the last 6 months we have gone through amp hell and still haven't quite recovered.. we've also written quite a few new songs since our last show and are still in the process of writing more and despite the fact that Nick has gone on multiple vacations in this time. And I think we have all agreed that our full length will be tentatively called Osculum Infame which is the ritual that witchs do to be introduced into satans cult. We are as of right now in the middle of putting together a spring two week tour which might push us for some longer drives and actually trying to get out of typical area as much possible on this next tour and hit up some places Elitist has not yet been too. As we are also in need of our own vehicle to start touring which will become priority for us, if you saw us on our last tour the bus was pretty fuckin ridiculous! And as far as the release of the full length not exactly sure of who will release but we know for sure that the transient split will be coming out on Paradigms as Duncan has been a pretty a awesome dude to us all. Also Our SELF TITLED EP is available online at various blogspots just for your knowledge.. which if you go to Google and type in any band you wish and blogspot at the end of it (elitist ep blogspot) you can find their releases .. and we still have shirts and actual cds for sale at paradigms and on our myspace.. hit us up if you are interested because that money that we make off selling this shit is what makes our band able to continue to play as that we are all already wrapped into paying so much for Elitist to continue.. thanks we'll have some post from us into the studio soon as well..-taylor
